CASTELO DE VIDE / 24th March – 2nd April
Easter is the excellence of the festivities in Castelo de Vide. It is the celebration where identity is better shown and makes Castelo de Vide proud of their people and institutions. With sacred solemnities and pagan rituals, we breathe the incense of fraternity, tolerance and hope. The roots, more than religious, are anthropological, deep and diffuse.
On Saturday, there still is the blessing of the sheep, reminding the times when the flocks used to enter in town to be blessed before immolation. At night, after Easter Vigil, "Chocalhada" takes place: people celebrate the Alleluia shaking "chocalhos" [the name of the bells used by animals] and the sound is amazing! In the streets, we listen to thousands of bells and people full of joy celebrating the Alleluia!
The Resurrection Procession, on Easter Sunday, is the highlight of all celebration. The municipality flag gathers all local entities - associations, enterprises, institutions – and their banners show the immaterial heritage that Castelo de Vide possesses
